“That’s
what you get for dickin’ around.” Colonel Jack O’Neill, Stargate
SG-1 Assif stood up from the padded bench as the door
opened. Moving quickly, but unhurriedly
inside, he came to stand before the officer in camouflage as he stepped
towards the far office. “Sir, the Air
Marshal will be with you shortly.” He
knocked once against the other door and opened it slowly. Assif waited, looking to the wooden door as the
secretary disappeared inside it, sliding in to keep it as closed as
possible. For a moment, Assif found
himself alone in the office. He
glanced to the corners, able to spot the hidden cameras watching his every
movement. He glared at the cameras,
but said nothing. After a moment, he
reached into his pocket and took out his cell phone. He hit a few numbers, then held it to his
ear. It rang once.
“Kuen,” came Jin’s voice. “Jin,” Assif said, “I want you to begin the search.” “I’m on it,” Jin said, hanging up. Assif glanced to his left as the door opened and the
secretary stepped out. Assif held up
his hand, smiling politely. “That’s
right,” he said into the silent phone.
“I want you to keep the men ready.”
He looked at the secretary. “Just a second,” he whispered. The RAF man stood at attention, an annoyed
look on his face. “Yes,” Assif went
on. “Yes, that’s right. Good.
I have to go now; I have a meeting with the Air Marshal.” Assif turned to the young officer as he flipped his
phone closed. The man gave Assif a
harsh look and stepped out of the way, holding the door for him. Inside, the air marshal waited behind his
desk, an agitated look. “So you really
went,” the older man said. Assif
stepped before the desk and reached into his attaché, pulling out a thick
stack of papers. He dropped them onto
the air marshal’s desk. The old man
looked up at Assif with an angry glare.
“Marshal,” he said clearly. “By
order of the United Nations Security Council as well as the Speaker of the
House of Commons, you are hereby ordered to release all members of my team,
to return to them any and all possessions taken from them at the time of
incarceration, to return them to their vehicle, and to allow them to complete
their assignment.” |
